The city of Oakland is the area which comes from the San Francisco Bay all the way into the Easy Bay Hills. The land is known for having a variety of immigrants from all parts of the United States as well as other countries from around the world. There are more than 50 distinctive neighborhoods within Oakland, even though there are no official names on a map. The most major type of neighborhood found in Oakland is the Downtown Oakland District, also known as the Central Business District. A few others are East Oakland, West Oakland, and North Oakland.
Oakland's Downtown District, or Central Business District, is made up of several different parts. There are the portions of Laney College, Chinatown, Civic Center, City Center, Jack London Square, and Uptown. Downtown Oakland is the area which is in between of 6th Street, Jefferson Street, Grand Avenue, and Harrison Street. Downtown district is home to the industrial and residential areas. One of the largest residential portions of Downtown Oakland fall under the Lakeside Apartment Districts. Car dealers and automotive servicing businesses can be found on the Broadway Auto Row. Most of the areas within the Downtown area fall slightly into other districts as well.
East Oakland is famous for being the Southeastern part of Oakland. It takes up a very large part of the actual city's land area. The major landscapes and points that make a boundary for this area are the Lake Merrit and San Leandro. The area is famous for the high crime, violence, and drug use that has been increasing ever since the war.
